What are those SAP SLT deployment options? What is the purpose of those options? These are some of the things we will discuss below.
What Are SAP SLT Deployment Options?
When we say SAP SLT it is SAP Solution Manager Technical Library. It is also a tool used to execute and perform SAP Technical Library-related tasks.
To deliver the information which is stored in SLT, SAP Solution Manager uses a template. This template is called a deployment option.
Deployment options are used to deploy the templates or the SLTs to the end-users or the clients. They are also used for building and deploying those templates to different environments such as production, test, development, and so on.
The information which is stored in these deployment options is grouped by version. The deployment options are created based on different versions.
For example, you can create a new deployment option based on a specific version of the SLT template. And also use that deployment option to deploy the same version of the SLT to production and test environments for instance.
You can also use this deployment option for building another deployment option. It is based on another version of the same SLT template but with some customized settings.
You can then use this custom deployment option for deploying another version of this SLT template. It is to the development environment for instance.
There are two major ways of deploying or creating those deployment options namely:
1: Manual Deployment Option Creation:
You can use this option to deploy a single or multiple versions of one or more SAP SLT templates at once automatically. So by selecting them from a list of available versions and creating new deployment options.
It is for those versions automatically with predefined settings according to your needs. To use this method you need to have access rights to the SAP Solution Manager system.
Also, as well as administrator’s privileges on the SAP Solution Manager system. It is because you will be required to create a new folder in your SAP Solution Manager system to store your deployment options there later on.
2: Automatic Deployment Option Creation:
The second way is automatic creation and use of deployment options. That you can create automatically in your SAP Solution Manager system without needing any access rights as we did in manually creating them.
But with predefined settings according to your needs without any effort from your side. This method allows you to select an existing folder from all versions of one or more SAP SLT templates.
It will be selected automatically. Then deployed with their associated custom settings automatically without any effort from your side just by double-clicking on an icon in SAP GUI (GUI icon).
The following shows how this method works. Let’s assume that you want to create a new deployment option to deploy a specific version of the SAP SLT template.
You will be required to:
1: Select the version of the SLT template that you want to create a deployment option for.
2: Click on the “Create Deployment Option” icon in the toolbar of SAP GUI. You can see this icon below.
3:A window will pop up asking you to enter your password and click on OK. After entering your password and clicking OK, you can see that a deployment option is created for the selected version of the template as shown below:
