Do you know what an SAP training variant configuration is? Do you know its function and importance? If not, then this article is for you. So, keep on reading below.
SAP Training Variant Configuration
An SAP training variant configuration refers to a new configuration of an existing training program. You can create a new training program and make changes to it in the same way as you would create a regular new program.
This is a kind of sub-program that comes under the main program. You can change an existing program by adding or removing material and also changing the sequence of topics.
As per SAP, “It is used for internal purposes only and is not relevant for external training”.
SAP Training Variant Configuration Benefits
There are many benefits of creating such configurations. Firstly, you can reduce the number of programs that have to be maintained by the trainers to conduct sessions for different users. Thus making it easier for them and also saving time.
Secondly, you can choose to add or remove topics or sections from a particular training variant at any given time. Thirdly, you can easily identify the sessions that are being conducted at any point in time as this will be reflected on the system’s screen.
Fourthly, such configurations can also be used to prepare curriculum charts for conducting sessions and identifying the learning objectives and target audiences. Also, it is easy to compare the same training variant with another one to see if there are any differences in them.
If you want to check out an example of a training variant configuration, go through the following steps:
- First of all, go to the program master data maintenance screen and select the ‘Training’ node under the ‘Programs’ section.
- Then, click on ‘Variants’ on the left-hand side of the screen and you will be shown a list of all the training variants under your main program. Now, you can add or remove sessions according to your requirements and also change their sequence. You can also create sub-variants and sub-sub variants.
- Finally, save the changes and your new training variant configuration is ready.
Conducting an SAP Training
How, then, can companies conduct SAP training sessions? Do you know that there are many options available in the market today?
First of all, you can conduct face-to-face sessions. This is the traditional method. Here, actual hands-on training is conducted and there is also a provision for on-demand support and consulting.
There are many advantages to this method of training. Firstly, trainees get to physically meet their trainers, which helps them to build open and healthy relationships with them. Secondly, they get to ask queries in real-time and receive instant answers which further enables them to gain the right information at the right time.
Thirdly, there are no restrictions for trainees as far as the location is concerned. As long as there is an Internet connection, they can attend the session from anywhere in the world.
You can also choose remote training programs where sessions are conducted online instead of face-to-face ones. In this case, too, trainees can attend sessions at any time and from any place provided that they have an Internet connection.
