How important is the SAP Ariba deployment methodology? So we will tackle the following information about this SAP below.
What Is SAP Ariba Deployment Methodology?
SAP Ariba deployment methodology is a plan to deploy SAP Ariba in the target environment. SAP Ariba deployment methodology contains the entire activities in the SAP Ariba implementation cycle.
And also the roles, responsibilities, and activities related to the SAP Ariba deployment.
What Are The Phases Of SAP Ariba Deployment Methodology?
Deployment Methodology includes three phases:
- Planning phase
- Implementation phase
- Post-implementation phase
In which the planning and implementation phases are common between all SAPs. Also, some more phases are specific to each platform.
Let’s take a look at each of these phases one by one:
Planning Phase:
In this phase, we will identify the project tasks, work items, and resources necessary to implement the project. This includes:
- Risks and issues identification
- Project schedule
- Risk management
- Budget planning
- Project staffing
- Project quality assurance
Implementation Phase:
Once the planning phase is finished, we will proceed to the implementation phase which includes all project tasks. Also, in this phase, we will manage these tasks using a tool called “SAP Planner” or “SAP Solution Manager”.
Post-implementation Phase:
After implementing the project, we will proceed to post-implementation activities. So this is also known as go live or production activities.
We will perform all activities related to operating and maintaining the system such as the following:
- change management
- problem management
- incident management
- etc.
Before going into each of these phases in detail, let’s first understand what these phrases mean with an example. Let’s consider that you are working on implementing a Sales Order Module on your SAP system.
Your project tasks will be very clear right from the start. So you will tell your team members that you need to create a sales order processing business process module.
And also you need to implement it on your production system and you also need to do some more activities like creating master data etc. In this example, we can say that the creation of a business process module.
It is your project task that falls under the implementation phase of your Sales Order Processing Module implementation project.
It’s worth mentioning that not all projects have all these three phases in their implementation cycle. For example, if you are implementing only one new functional module.
Then there is no need to create project tasks in the planning phase. You can directly go to the implementation phase and also if you are implementing a non-functional project.
Then you will skip the implementation phase and go to the post-implementation or production phase.
How To Create SAP Ariba Deployment Methodology?
SAP Ariba deployment methodology should be created by the SAP Ariba project manager. It is with all project tasks and roles, responsibilities, and activities for each task.
There is no specific template for that. However, we have some general guidelines that will help you in creating your own SAP Ariba deployment methodology:
First of all, you need to identify all project tasks and create a list of them by using an Excel sheet.
After that, we need to arrange them into different categories like technical, functional, etc.
We need to create a schedule for each project task. We need to decide how much time it will take to complete each task separately.
Also, we need to create a schedule for the entire project including all project tasks when they are completed one by one. In this way, we will know exactly when our project is going to be completed.
